Book Review: Love by Numbers by Sydney Scott

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Can one perpetually practical accountant plus one free-spirited artist equal more than friends?

Sometimes you pick up a book at just the right moment—and that’s exactly how I felt with Love by Numbers by Sydney Scott. I wasn’t sure if I’d be into the pregnancy trope, but this story was so sweet, light, and heartwarming that I ended up loving every page.

The Story

We follow Jenna, an artsy, free-spirited woman returning to her hometown with a little extra passenger—she’s pregnant. Without the best support system from her family, Jenna learned how to rely on herself and even built her own business. She’s strong, independent, and determined to provide for her baby.

But hotel living isn’t exactly ideal for a mom-to-be, so Jenna goes looking for a more permanent place. Enter Henry. The dependable accountant with a heart of gold, Henry happens to be looking for a roommate. He also just happens to be Jenna’s old high school acquaintance… and, as it turns out, longtime secret admirer.

The more time they spend under one roof, the more Henry becomes Jenna’s support system—not just for her, but for the baby too (lovingly nicknamed Little Bean). What starts as a practical arrangement blossoms into something real, full of tender moments, slow trust, and genuine care.

My Thoughts

This book was everything I needed to break out of my reading slump. It’s light, fun, and romantic without being overly dramatic.

Jenna is a heroine you can admire—she knows what she wants, she’s resourceful, and she’s doing her best to balance independence with vulnerability. Henry? He’s one of those MMCs who surprises you. At first, you think he’s the safe choice, but then you realize he’s the whole package. Dependable, thoughtful, and quietly swoony in the best way.

And Little Bean? The sweetest addition that made the story even more heartwarming.
