I recently listened to He Sees You When You Are Sleeping by Alta Hensley on audiobook, narrated by Rock Engle and Jillian Macie. The narrators were excellent and really brought the story to life, but overall, my rating lands at 3.75 stars.
The story follows Chloe, a jewelry influencer with a hidden side she explores without hesitation. Then there’s Jack—a firefighter who has been secretly watching her for two years, learning her habits, routines, likes, and dislikes. To Chloe, he was invisible… until he staged a meet cute that pulled him into her world.
At first, Chloe resists. Jack has the “boy next door” vibe, which doesn’t align with the darker fantasies she craves. But when she ventures online to live out her most secret desires, the shocking twist is that Jack is watching. From that moment on, their holiday wishes take a spicy, darkly festive turn.

I picked this up expecting a fun, holiday-themed read with lots of spice, and in many ways, it delivered. The spice was there, the Christmas setting added a unique flavor, and the suspenseful stalker-to-lover trope kept me curious. However, something just didn’t fully click for me. Maybe it was the pacing or the emotional depth, but while I enjoyed it, I didn’t love it enough to give a full five stars.
Final Thoughts
If you’re looking for a dark holiday romance with spice, suspense, and a “he sees you when you’re sleeping” twist, this is worth adding to your audiobook list. Just don’t expect the light and fluffy holiday cheer—it’s definitely more on the naughty list.
