I always thought Axel Stevens and I would live happily ever after. But he’s never liked me back.
Holly freaking shirt balls! That cliffhanger! Why!?
This sequel was just as funny as it was heartbreaking. It had me replaying some of my own high school memories—the good ones and the not-so-good ones—and feeling that end-of-the-world kind of pain that comes with liking someone who doesn’t feel the same way. (I am a drama queen, I know!)
All that to say, I felt Scarlett’s pain for unrequited love over and over and over. Did I want to shake her to make her gain some sense? OF COURSE I did! Did I want to throw my Kindle against the wall to make it all stop? Also YES. I wanted to hug her and tell her that everything was going to be okay. That it wasn’t the end of the world.
The first book was hilarious. This one had a bit more emotion, sadness, and a touch of mystery.
“I want to be loved out loud. Not just in dark closets by a kiss thief.“
The adults were behaving very strangely, and I still can’t figure out why. The high schoolers—well, they were “high-schoolering” and having the time of their lives during senior year.
The Thief… we still don’t know who it is, and I’m VERY stressed. I just hope it’s not that certain authority figure. (If you read the first book, you know who I’m talking about.) Axel can suck it. He’s such a douche—taking advantage of how Scarlett feels for him, but to what end? I don’t know. TERRIBLE behavior. Is he the Thief? I still don’t know, and I really hope he’s not.
I’m still Team Jacob, but I’m afraid that the third book will be pure heartbreak! I don’t like that I have to wait a whole year to find out who the Thief is, if the relationships survive, or if new ones blossom.
This book made me laugh out loud, but it also made me shed a few tears. It was full of happy moments, some crazy ones, and a few firsts. 😉
Ivy Smoak’s writing is easy to follow, and she’s hilarious. She’s great at making you think something is going to happen, then pushing—no, SHOVING—you in the opposite direction. I love it though!
Final Thoughts:
This book was a wild, emotional ride, with the perfect mix of humor, teen drama, and mystery. If you loved the first book, this one will keep you hooked (and stressed!) until the very last page. I cannot wait for book three!
